Vacuum Pump Oil Change

Vacuum Pump Oil Change

One of the best things you can do if you own a vacuum pump is to ensure that you change your vacuum pump oil regularly. Alright….so what is “regular”? We suggest that after each use of the vacuum pump, end of the week, once a month, once a year, whatever your use is. There are many problems and potential problems that you can avoid simply by changing your vacuum pump oil regular.

Changing your oil is even more important when you’re planning to store a pump after use for an extended period of time. Most vacuum pump oils have some basic chemical elements within their composition. Almost all petroleum oils have sulfur to a certain degree. If your pump happens to get any water contamination, the water eventually combines with the sulfur in the oil and eventually forms an ugly sulfuric acid. As you may have guessed the sulfuric acid attacks your pump and that’s bad. Vacuum pumps that get sulfuric acid in them (without a change) will oxidize over time and use. This causes the oil to breakdown and releases the sulfur to make acid.
